Bumped into something called Desi Bling on Netflix. Before I point out the unignorable flaws, let me clear some stuff .
I watch ‘Bollywood Wives’ , ‘Dubai Bling’ and such, Guilty Pleasure you could call it, but I have fun. Jewellery, lifestyle and all maybe.
But Desi Bling stoops many notches low. No Class, just Crass. A bunch of wannabes flaunting their gold and Bollywood connections. If only it was just this, but …
There are Women, supposedly Independent Women.
One foot massages her husband every morning, to bring in Lakshmi.
Another lady brings her ex to all parties, to make other women jealous. Her words.
Two sisters bitch endlessly, one ear to another.
An Indian actress screams, throws drama in public….Uff.
I COULDN’T SURVIVE 3 EPISODES. But….
What do these makers take us women for? We meet up with friends, to backbite about those who we met the previous night? We enjoy discussing a friend’s domestic problems which she shared in private with utmost trust? We try to break families, suspect our men, and keep a close watch on others’ husbands?
Mind you, educated enterpreneurs. Them.
And this age and time. 21st Century.
Wonder, if this is what Netflix thinks we are, and if this is how women are represented globally, what kind of Emancipation or Empowerment are we talking about?
Women being portrayed as hawks, swooping on each other, pulling one another down literally , on every front.
And they have the audacity to sell these as reality shows on a global platform.
They are wealthy because their husbands, boyfriends, even exes provide for them.
They hug in public and bitch in private. They wear heavy makeup so their husbands like them, they have 40kgs of Gold and gift their infants cars,
they throw tantrums for all to see,
and they are labelled….
‘MODERN WOMEN’.
Sigh…
