I have been meaning to read The Gita for more than three decades, but the sheer volume and the tough Sanskrit have kept me away. I am no atheist, but somehow, reading religious texts, be it Ramayana or Bhagavatham has been difficult. Perhaps it’s the monotony, font or the heaviness of language.

That’s where Anupama Jain’s Decoding The Gita helps. A lot.

To start with, the book has 18 chapters or Yogas. Like the Vishada Yoga, Karma Yoga, Dhyana Yoga, in the sequence how they appear in The Gita.
Arjuna’s self doubts and grief being dispelled by Sri Krishna is the theory behind Gita, so all chapters have the Sanskrit Shlokas with ‘Arjuna Uvacha’ and ‘Sri Bhagavan Uvacha’. Translations have been provided right below the Shloka.

What worked for me, is the simplicity with which the explanation of every Yoga has been given. Anupama makes sure that the reader, of any age can grasp and understand the philosophy behind Krishna’s teachings.

For someone like me, this book is perfect. Because now I have read all wisdom of Gita, in a language and font that keeps me engaged.

I have to mention here, that Anupama ‘s effort and hardwork is truly commendable. To read and understand Gita , and then break it down to a simpler format without compromising on the meaning or depth is indeed an arduous task and she has done a great job. There’s a compact gist of what the Yogas tell us, after every chapter. Plus, modern day references have been provided for better understanding.
The language is perfect and the soft but concise writing style makes the book unputdownable.

I can only imagine the time and diligence that must have gone behind creating this Brilliant Book.
It is meant for all age groups, and whether you are a believer or not, Decoding The Gita is not about God, it’s about how you should conduct your daily life, with truth and righteousness.
It is not a Lecture, it is a smooth simple way of life.
