Title: Parenting Unplugged: The Drama MaMa Diaries.
Genre: Self Help, Humour
Author: Lalitha Ramanathan Lalitha Ramanathan
Publisher: Om Books International.

Parenting…an unsolved puzzle, an unanswered question, a never-ending experiment. You learn some, hear some, try some, succeed, fail, but never give up. Because once a parent, always a parent.
But how much parenting is good parenting?

And that’s exactly why Lalitha’s book, Parenting Unplugged is so pertinent.

In the book, Lalitha pens heart-warming moments from her pregnancy to the current day, her life and experiences as the mother of a school-going kid. The tiny ups and downs, the curious innocent queries, being lost for answers, school projects, picnics…Lalitha chronicles many such simple day-to-day accounts, seemingly small, but extremely significant if you delve deeper.

What sets the book apart, is Lalitha’s incredible sense of humour. Every verse is wrapped in fun, making the incident seem hilarious. BC and AC (Before Child and After Child), the Tooth Fairy delivering toys only once, Lord Rama killing Narakasura, and half our time getting lost in searching, a few funny ones that will forever remain with me.

But the humour is just one of Lalitha’s many skills to keep the audience engaged. Her sense of humour expertly and intelligently conveys the various hidden aspects of motherhood.

Moreover, the book is so relatable, from the subtle accounts of ultrasound, milestones, milk teeth, breastfeeding, to the chaos of being working mothers, and attending endless PTMs and activity classes, I could see myself at many junctures.

Yet, what’s best is, not for once does Parenting Unplugged come across as preachy or text- bookish. It’s Lalitha’s story, how she dealt with what many of us do or have already done. Not for once does she force her methods on the reader, if not, her book eases you off the tension you would take in similar situations.

After every chapter, there’s a summary/quote by our very own Drama Mama, which, like the entire book, brings a smile to your face.

I could go on and on, but you have to read and experience Parenting Unplugged. It’s a feel-good and positive read, the need of the hour in today’s hectic, stress-filled lifestyle.

I would happily recommend this book to everyone, it’s a must-read. For it’s goodness, it’s simplicity.
