The warmth of friendship, the fun of 4 spinsters staying under one roof, their camadrie between the struggles of work and relationships…Sudha Vishwanath’s True Treasure talks about all these and more.
Shalakha, Trishna, Suman and Ratna come from absolutely different financial and parental backgrounds but they are somehow destined to meet, and circumstances get them closer. They share chores, stories and secrets, arguing at times, but making up and bonding later.
The book busts a very common myth. That Blood is Thicker than Water. What do you say when your so- called Family refuses to accept you and total strangers take you under their wings. A little push, a drop of appreciation, a clap of encouragement, at times that’s all you need to get your life going. There’s no guarantee that your well wishers might forever be your closest relatives.
The language is perfect, the words flow smoothly. Set in Maharashtra, some conversations are in Marathi as well, which makes the book very relatable. The pace is just right , the book arouses your curiosity, you wouldn’t want to keep it down until the end. The ending is indeed refreshing and thought provoking.
An ode to friendship, subtly discussing subjects like gender discrimination, abuse and dysphoria, Sudha Vishwanath’s book is indeed a True Treasure. Highly recommended.
