I stumbled upon this book on Kindle App as a suggestion, in fact, the author’s Daiva had popped up. Familiar terms like Kannur, Taiyyam and Kazargod got my attention and after some exploration, here I am with Dakini.
The tribal village of Birpur is being haunted by some unnaturally gruesome murders. There are superstitions doing the rounds, but all fingers seem to point towards Kaliban ki Dakini, a Witch. When internationally acclaimed journalist Mamta Mathews and her assistant Tara arrive at Birpur to cover this story, they get engulfed in a web of horrifying incidents, like eerie wails, a sinister prowling shadow, deaths and gory nightmares. Is Dakini a myth, or does she really hunt in the nights? The pattern seems inhuman though investigation suggests otherwise.
What I liked the most about Dakini, is the pace. It’s fast and action packed. The end of every chapter is shrouded with mystery, urging the reader to go ahead with no stop. The narration is so effective that it instills fear, you could actually visualize the dark moonless nights, the murky jungle, and black sari clad Dakini floating around, cackling with cruel laughter.
The language is ornate, the weave of words is beautiful. The vocabulary is exemplary. The finale is absolutely unimaginable, and the Epilogue makes me wonder, is there a Part 2?
A gripping thriller, with an enthralling story and brilliant storytelling, Dakini is a Must Read, especially for those who enjoy Paranormal Fiction.
